Yusuf Buhari Declares Interest in House of Representatives Seat
Yusuf Buhari, the only male child of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State. He plans to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
He made the declaration in a personally signed letter dated April 3, 2026. In the letter, Yusuf stated that he reached the decision after wide consultations. He expressed his desire to contribute to good and qualitative leadership, bring infrastructural development, and provide human support to the people of the constituency.
Yusuf wrote: “With all respect, I am extremely delighted to write and inform you of my intention to contest for the seat of House of Representatives at the above-mentioned constituency under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC). … Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human support and development to the people of this constituency.”
The announcement followed an endorsement by APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area. They passed a resolution supporting Yusuf as their preferred candidate during a meeting at the local government secretariat. The meeting was attended by elected officials and political appointees.
The council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, said the endorsement reflected Yusuf’s capacity and acceptance among party members. A party source revealed that Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State directed the endorsement, describing Yusuf as the governor’s anointed candidate.
The stakeholders also reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and Governor Radda’s second term in 2027.
This move marks Yusuf Buhari’s entry into active politics as he seeks to represent his home constituency in the National Assembly.
