Yung Filly Found Not Guilty of Rape, Convicted on Two Assault Charges in Australia
British rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly has been found not guilty of raping a woman following a performance at a nightclub in Perth, Australia, in 2024.
A jury in Western Australia on Friday acquitted the entertainer, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, of three counts of sexual penetration without consent. He was, however, found guilty of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm. The jury also found him not guilty of one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of strangulation, while it could not reach a verdict on three additional rape charges.
Barrientos, 30, was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman in his hotel room after performing in Hillarys, a coastal suburb of Perth. During the trial, prosecutors alleged that the pair had consensual sex before the woman asked him to stop and that he became violent, leaving her with bruises and bite marks.
Barrientos denied the allegations, telling the court that the encounter was consensual. He admitted biting the woman but described it as a "love bite" and denied that she repeatedly asked him to stop.
In closing arguments, prosecutors described Barrientos as an "entitled" man who had violated the complainant, while the defence argued that the woman's account contained "inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies."
According to local media reports, Barrientos became emotional as the verdicts were delivered. He will remain on bail until August 21, when the court is expected to set a date for sentencing on the assault convictions. Prosecutors are also expected to decide whether to proceed with a retrial on the three rape charges for which the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
