Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, despite his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

The singer made the statement during an interview with News Central TV in August, saying he had yet to decide which presidential candidate to support but would not back the ruling party.

“Right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own,” Davido said.

The singer also addressed his uncle’s support for Tinubu, explaining that the governor’s political decision did not mean he would make the same choice.

Ademola Adeleke declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in March 2026. The governor said his decision was based on his assessment of the president’s leadership and the interests of Osun State.

Davido acknowledged that his uncle could have his reasons for supporting the president, including the potential benefits of maintaining a working relationship with the Federal Government. However, he maintained that individuals should make their own political decisions.

The singer also spoke about his involvement in his uncle’s re-election campaign, claiming that he helped defeat powerful political opponents through his social media activity.

“I defeated 17 governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions. I defeated them with my phone,” he said.

Ademola Adeleke contested the August 15 Osun governorship election under the Accord Party and secured re-election with 511,067 votes, defeating the APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes, according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Davido was among the prominent supporters who campaigned for his uncle during the election.

The singer has previously supported different political alignments. He recalled supporting former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar when they were in the Peoples Democratic Party and also spoke about his earlier support for the APC following its formation.

His latest comments, however, do not amount to an endorsement of any opposition candidate for 2027. Davido said he had not settled on a preferred presidential candidate, while ruling out support for the APC.
