Actress Nkechi Blessing has paid an emotional tribute to late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo following his service of songs, which drew a large turnout of celebrities, family members, and friends in Lagos.

The service of songs was held on Wednesday at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, with guests dressed in white in accordance with the wishes of the Ekubo family. Among those in attendance were Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi, Frederick Leonard, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, singer Chike, and Cubana Chief Priest.

Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs led worship sessions, while Pastor Jerry Eze, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings also ministered during the event.

In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, Blessing described Ekubo as more than a friend, calling him a brother whose warmth, laughter, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

She said his energy filled every room and that he had a unique ability to make people feel seen, loved, and appreciated. According to her, he was the kind of friend who always showed up for others and made life easier for those around him.

Reflecting on his death, the actress said it was difficult to imagine life without his voice, humour, wisdom, and the memories they shared, adding that the pain of losing him reflected how deeply he was loved.

“My heart is heavy as I struggle to find the right words for a man whose presence could never be described by words alone,” she wrote.

Blessing said Ekubo's legacy of love, friendship, and kindness would continue to live on in the hearts of those he left behind.

“Until we meet again, Alex. You will always be remembered, always be loved, and never be forgotten,” she added.

Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, after a battle with kidney cancer.

His funeral rites continue with a wake-keep scheduled for June 17 in Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State, while his burial will take place on June 18.
