Media personality and actor Denrele Edun has opened up on the motivation behind his symbolic self-marriage, which he announced as part of celebrations marking his 45th birthday.

The entertainer, born Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, shared the unconventional moment on social media.

Explaining the decision in an Instagram Story on Tuesday, Denrele said the gesture reflected his life journey and acknowledged the person who had remained with him through every chapter of his life.

According to him, the self-marriage was a celebration of 45 years filled with challenges, growth, reinvention, resilience, and personal victories.

“Till death 'didn't' do us part? So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak, and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he wrote.

Denrele said the act was his way of honouring every version of himself that had endured life's highs and lows to reach the milestone.

“I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!” he stated.

The media personality concluded the message with the words: “The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”

Denrele celebrated his 45th birthday on June 13 and used the occasion to reflect on his 'personal evolution' and 'enduring sense of self'.
