Uche Jombo: Love Scenes in Movies Aren’t Fun to Shoot
Veteran Nollywood actress Uche Jombo has opened up about the reality behind filming romantic and intimate scenes in movies, revealing that they are far from enjoyable or glamorous.
In a recent interview, the actress and filmmaker explained that love scenes require intense concentration, technical precision, and strict professionalism rather than passion or excitement. She described the process as uncomfortable and highly choreographed, often involving multiple crew members, cameras, lighting adjustments, and repeated takes under bright lights and watchful eyes.
“People think it’s fun or sexy, but it’s one of the most difficult scenes to shoot,” Uche said. “You’re thinking about angles, marks, dialogue, timing, not romance. There’s a director shouting instructions, a cinematographer saying ‘move left,’ and 20 people staring at you. It’s work, not pleasure.”
She emphasised that actors must completely separate personal feelings from the performance to maintain professionalism and avoid awkwardness. Uche also noted that many actors feel vulnerable during such scenes and rely on trust with their co-stars and crew to get through them successfully.
The actress, known for her roles in romantic dramas and comedies, added that the final edited version often looks passionate and believable only because of the skill and effort put into making it appear natural. Behind the scenes, however, it is anything but romantic.
Her candid revelation resonated with many fans and industry colleagues who agreed that the public perception of love scenes is very different from the actual filming experience.
