Actress Toyin Adewale has reflected on her son Mayorkun’s entry into the music industry and his early breakthrough under Afrobeats star Davido’s DMW label.

Mayorkun was discovered by Davido and subsequently signed to the label, where he began his professional music career.

In an interview with Nollywood actress and producer Biola Bayo, Toyin Adewale said she became emotional and wept when she first witnessed her son working with Davido and his team.

She recalled being present when Davido placed a call to Mayorkun, noting that the moment left her son excited and overwhelmed.

According to her, Davido invited Mayorkun to the studio the following day, and the session produced his breakout track, “Eleko.”

The actress described her first meeting with Davido and members of the DMW crew as warm, adding that they were respectful and often addressed her as “Mummy.”

“The first time I came back from America, I came back after nine years. When I got back, and I saw them, I stepped to one side and cried. (I stepped aside and wept). I said thank you, God cause they really make me proud. I was there when Davido called him; he actually wanted to go crázy. He said Davido told him to come the next day to record a song. That was the night they recorded Eleko,” she said.

Toyin Adewale also noted that Mayorkun had been creatively inclined from an early age, writing poems and showing interest in music before his breakthrough.

She expressed gratitude for the support her son received and prayed for continued success for him and everyone involved.
