President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a fresh external loan of $516,333,070 to fund sections of the proposed Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway. The request was contained in a letter read during plenary on Thursday.

The loan is expected to be sourced from Deutsche Bank and will support parts of the 1,000-kilometre road project linking northern and southern Nigeria.

The highway is designed to connect several states across the country, stretching from Sokoto to Badagry in Lagos. It aims to improve movement of goods, reduce travel time, and strengthen economic activities along the corridor.

In his message to lawmakers, the president urged swift approval of the request. The Senate leadership has referred the proposal to the appropriate committee for review and further legislative action.
