Tinubu, First Lady Celebrate Nigerian Children, Promise Hope and Protection
President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have celebrated Nigerian children on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day, while also calling for stronger protection, discipline, and support for young people across the country.
In his Children’s Day message, President Tinubu praised Nigerian children for their resilience, courage, and determination despite the many challenges facing the country. He celebrated children excelling academically, those learning vocational skills, children living with disabilities, and those who have suffered painful experiences but continue to hold on to hope.
The President, however, acknowledged the pain of families whose children and teachers were abducted in Oyo and Borno states. He said many parents are marking the celebration in grief and uncertainty following the kidnappings.
According to him, his administration remains committed to securing the safe return of the abducted children and bringing those responsible to justice. He added that he has directed security agencies to intensify rescue operations and strengthen protection around schools, especially in high-risk communities.
Tinubu also stressed that child protection should not be left to the government alone. He urged parents, teachers, community leaders, religious bodies, youth groups, local vigilantes, transport unions, and the media to work together in protecting children from danger.
He warned that ignoring suspicious activities around schools or communities could place children at risk, adding that quick and responsible sharing of information could help save lives.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also shared a message to commemorate the day, encouraging Nigerian children to take responsibility for their future through discipline, focus, and positive choices.
Speaking on the 2026 Children’s Day theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” the First Lady said children are not only future leaders but active contributors to the nation’s present development.
She advised young people to avoid destructive lifestyles and remain committed to learning, personal growth, and character building. According to her, a better future can only be achieved through responsible actions and wise decisions made today.
The First Lady ended her message by extending goodwill and love to children across the country and wishing them a happy Children’s Day celebration.
