Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has etched her name into music history as the first female African artist to earn a Diamond single in the United States.

Her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, "Wait For U," has been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), an honour reserved for songs that sell over 10 million units in the country.

Chart Data, the platform that tracks these numbers, put the actual figure even higher, over 11 million units sold.

The milestone puts Tems alongside Wizkid as the only two African artists to ever earn a Diamond single in the US. Wizkid got there first, through his 2016 feature on Drake's "One Dance," which received its Diamond certification in 2022.

"Wait For U" first crossed the 10-million sales threshold in September 2025, a run that also made Tems the first African female artist to hit one billion Spotify streams on a single song.

The certification adds to a stacked year for the singer, who became the first Nigerian to win two Grammys after taking home Best African Music Performance for "Love Me Jeje," and who has also built a solo catalogue including "Essence," "Free Mind," and "Found" stacked with Platinum and Gold certifications of its own.
