Nigerian singer Tems has apologised after mistakenly calling Sasha Obama “Sandra” during a performance.

“I was nervous. Please forgive me,” Tems said, addressing the slip-up. The Grammy winner performed at the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago on 18 June 2026.

The moment quickly went viral online. Fans defended Tems, saying nerves are normal on such a huge stage.

Tems was part of the star-studded line-up for the centre’s launch, alongside Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Bruce Springsteen and others.

Despite the name mix-up, her performance was widely praised. The quick apology earned her more support from fans who called it “human” and “relatable”.
