Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has explained why she often portrays witches and other wicked characters in Nigerian films.

Ozokwor spoke about her choice of roles during a recent interview with Nigerian comedian and content creator Carter Efe.

The actress said she does not hate people who play such characters in real life but uses the roles to expose wickedness and injustice.

According to Ozokwor, she dislikes injustice, war and anything that promotes rancour, which influenced how she approached her villainous characters on screen.

“God created me to expose them. I hate injustice. I hate war. I hate anything that shows rancour,” she said.

Ozokwor explained that when she is given a role involving a wicked character, she deliberately brings out the character's actions and behaviour so viewers can recognise the consequences of such conduct.

“So when you give me that kind of role, I try to bring out everything I know about you, that if you are taking part in any of them, you will be careful,” she said.

The actress added that her performances are also intended to teach viewers that their actions have consequences.

She said: “Know the end thereof, because the end justifies the means. You know what will happen to you if you live a terrible life. And you know what you will gain if you are a good person.”
