Omoyele Sowore Questions Motives of Nigerian Pastors, Sparks Social Media Debate
Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has once again stirred controversy online with bold claims about pastors in Nigeria.
In a video making rounds on social media, Sowore suggested that many who become pastors do so after failing in school or avoiding regular work. He argued that some churches function more as collection points than places of genuine spiritual service.
Sowore recounted telling a pastor he met to temporarily turn his church into a hospital for a year, saying it could save many lives. The pastor, according to Sowore, reacted angrily and has since cut ties with him.
Standing by his views, Sowore said, “Pastors don’t like me, but I know God loves me.”
The remarks sparked a flurry of online reactions. Supporters applauded his candor, while critics accused him of attacking religious leaders, igniting a heated debate about accountability and the role of churches in Nigeria.
