Nigeria Immigration sends passport intervention team to UK
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced plans to deploy a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to help Nigerians with pending, new and renewal passport applications.
The team, directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is scheduled to arrive in the UK on August 10, 2026, according to an announcement issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service on Sunday.
The exercise will be carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom. The team is expected to visit selected cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing eligible applicants in different parts of the country to access the service.
The intervention is open to Nigerians in the UK with pending passport applications, those applying for a new passport, and existing passport holders seeking renewal where their passports have less than one year remaining before expiry.
Applicants are required to come with their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.
The NIS said the exercise is part of efforts to make passport services easier and more accessible to Nigerians living abroad, particularly those dealing with pending applications.
While the intervention team is scheduled to begin work in the UK, the Immigration Service has not yet released the full schedule for the exercise.
The service said the designated cities, dates, venues and enrolment times would be announced separately.
Applicants have therefore been advised not to travel to any location until the official schedule is released and to follow the Nigerian High Commission's official communication channels for updates.
Meanwhile, existing NIS digital passport application platforms, including the Contactless Passport Application System, will remain operational throughout the exercise. The home delivery option will also continue to be available.
The NIS said enquiries and complaints concerning the intervention can be directed to passport.london@immigration.gov.ng or through its WhatsApp-only line.
