NAFDAC Clears BON Bread, Says Preservatives Used Are Within Safety Limits
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has assured Nigerians that BON Bread is safe for consumption, stating that the preservatives used in its production are within approved safety limits.
The agency addressed growing public concern over claims that the bread contained unsafe additives or violated food safety standards.
NAFDAC explained that the use of preservatives in baked products like bread is a normal and regulated practice. It added that such additives are only allowed when they fall within approved global safety benchmarks.
According to the agency, food manufacturers are permitted to use controlled preservation methods to improve shelf life and maintain product quality, as long as they comply with regulatory guidelines.
It further clarified that BON Bread has not been found to exceed any permitted limits in its production process.
NAFDAC urged members of the public to disregard circulating fears about the product, noting that there is no regulatory evidence to support claims of unsafe practices.
The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions in Nigeria about the safety of commercially produced bread and the use of preservatives in everyday food items.
