Mr Eazi Faces Criticism After Launching Bet on Unborn Child's Gender
Nigerian Afrobeats star Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has sparked reactions online after promoting a betting market on the gender of his unborn child.
The singer shared a booking code on June 17 through betPawa Nigeria, a betting platform backed by his Choplife Gaming company, allowing users to wager on whether he and his partner, Temi Otedola, will have a boy or a girl. The market offered even odds of 2.00.
Temi, the daughter of Femi Otedola, announced her pregnancy in late May, sharing maternity photographs alongside a Bible verse.
The betting promotion generated mixed reactions on social media. Some Nigerians criticised the move, describing it as insensitive at a time when many people are facing economic challenges, including high inflation.
Others questioned the fairness of the wager, arguing that parents may already know the baby's gender through medical scans, raising concerns about a potential information advantage.
However, some social media users viewed the campaign as a lighthearted marketing stunt linked to Mr Eazi's business interests in the gambling sector.
The debate has continued online, with opinions divided over whether the promotion was harmless entertainment or an inappropriate use of a personal family milestone.
