A 50-year-old man caused a stir after arriving at a bank with the remains of his late sister while trying to access money in her account. The incident unfolded at a rural bank branch in Patana block of Keonjhar district after his earlier attempts to withdraw the funds were unsuccessful.

The man, identified as Jeetu Munda from Dianali village, had sought to collect about ₹20,000 belonging to his sister, Kalra Munda, who reportedly died on January 26, 2026. He claimed he had repeatedly informed bank officials of her death but was told the account holder must appear before any transaction could be processed.

After several failed visits, he resorted to digging up her grave and transporting the skeletal remains to the bank to demonstrate that she was no longer alive. The unusual action quickly attracted attention, prompting a call to security authorities.

Police officers who responded engaged him in discussions and explained the legal process required to access funds belonging to a deceased person. They noted that he appeared unfamiliar with banking procedures, including the role of nominees or legal heirs.

Following mediation, officials assured him that steps would be taken to help resolve the matter properly. The remains were later returned to the burial site and interred again under police supervision.
