Sports journalist Oma Akatugba says Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye once rejected a romantic interest from the daughter of a Nigerian billionaire, back when he was still playing for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Akatugba shared the story on his X account, recounting a visit to Okoye's home, during which the goalkeeper showed him a message from the billionaire's daughter. He said he pushed Okoye to consider her, pointing to her wealthy background, but Okoye laughed it off, telling him, "She's not really in my league, beauty-wise."

The story adds to the steady attention Okoye has drawn from Nigerian women since his Super Eagles debut in 2019, when his looks and physique made him an instant fan favourite on social media. The admiration reportedly became overwhelming enough that Okoye eventually went public to confirm he was already taken.

Okoye has been in a long-term relationship with Dutch model Jelicia Westhoff. The couple has a son, Isaiah Emil Okoye.
