Comedian and content creator Layi Wasabi has reflected on his journey as a Wizkid fan, revealing that his appreciation for the singer's music went through a rough patch before making a full comeback and that his own personal progress had everything to do with it.

Speaking about his long-term admiration for the singer, Layi said he had been a fan since the early days of Wizkid's career, often getting into debates in school over the Wizkid versus Davido debate.

However, there was a period when he grew less connected to Wizkid's sound, particularly as Wizkid began leaning into a more mellow, reflective style. At the time, Layi said he wanted music that reflected struggle, hustle, and ambition.

But things changed as his circumstances did.

"I was a Wizkid fan from the beginning. I had a lot of arguments in school because of Wizkid and Davido. When he started making soft music, I kept complaining that I needed to hear the struggle, but I started to enjoy Wizkid's music again when life got better for me," he said.
