Nollywood actor Jimmy Rolland has claimed that his former wife deceived him into believing she was a virgin before they got married, describing the discovery on their wedding night as one of the biggest disappointments of his life.

Speaking on the African A-List podcast in an episode uploaded Saturday, Rolland said he overlooked several warning signs before the marriage because he trusted what she told him.

"I am not a fool. I saw signs, but I was hypnotised by my mother-in-law," he said.

He said his mother and some friends had warned him against the marriage after conducting spiritual consultations, but he did not heed the advice. "My mother and friends made spiritual consultations and warned me not to marry her, but I did not listen," he said.

Rolland said he and his ex-wife dated for four years before marrying, and that she maintained throughout the relationship that she was a virgin. "She told me she was a virgin, so I did not bother to make attempts to make love to her. We dated for four good years," he said.

He said she asked that they wait until their wedding night to become intimate, following their traditional introduction ceremony. "After our introduction, she said, 'Till the wedding night.' I had to wait for some months, then on the wedding night, it ended up to be a lie," he said.

Rolland said the discovery devastated him and that he considered ending the relationship at the time, but chose to stay. "I was disappointed, and I should have walked away, but I did not. It was not me," he said.

Reflecting on the eventual breakdown of the marriage, Rolland said losing access to his two children after the separation was the most painful part of the experience. "What was disheartening is that we have two kids together, and she took them away," he said.

He said the emotional toll of being separated from his children later affected his health. "Because of the children she took away, I had a stroke. Because of too much thinking about those children, I had a stroke. My mother still cries because she wants to see those children," he said.

The actor did not disclose when the marriage ended or whether there are ongoing legal proceedings regarding custody of the children.
