Jarvis, Peller Fire Back at YCee Over "Peller Culture" Remarks
TikTok star Jarvis has pushed back against rapper YCee after he name-checked her fiancé Peller in a sweeping criticism of what he called Nigeria's growing "Olodo uprising."
YCee, whose real name is Oludemilade Martin Alejo, made the comments during a recent appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, where he argued that Nigerian society had shifted away from rewarding academic excellence toward celebrating ignorance.
He singled out what he called "Peller culture," claiming that fame and financial success were increasingly being tied to sensational or unintelligent online content, and that this was sending the wrong message to young people.
Jarvis, born Elizabeth Amadou, responded in a video that has since gone viral. She pointed to Nigeria's unemployment crisis as the context YCee was missing.
"I went to school. I graduated," she said. "Since the government didn't provide jobs for us, what exactly did you expect people to do?"
She also pushed back directly on the "Peller culture" label. "You even mention my man as 'Peller culture.' Everybody has their culture. I have an AI culture, everybody has their culture, so please don't bring that thing here," she said.
Jarvis also credited technology platforms for creating economic lifelines for young Nigerians, saying content creators owed a debt of gratitude to platforms that made earning online possible, and that without them, the situation in the country would be far worse.
Peller also weighed in. He accused musicians like YCee of hypocrisy, arguing that the same artists who criticise content creators still rely on influencers to promote their music. "When una wan promote music, na still these same people una dey run come meet," he wrote.
