Iyabo Ojo Addresses Fallout with Gunke Akindele and Toyin Colleagues
Nigerian filmmaker and actress, Iyabo Ojo, has broken her silence following online criticism and renewed tension involving colleagues Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, saying she is stepping back from the situation after trying to make peace.
In a lengthy statement, the actress responded to backlash directed at her, explaining that her relationship with both stars has had its ups and downs over time. She admitted that she once handled a disagreement poorly by calling out one of them publicly, but said they later resolved their issues privately.
She also revealed that she had made efforts behind the scenes to settle differences between both parties, including pleading with them to keep any misunderstandings off social media. According to her, there was an agreement to handle disputes privately, which initially seemed to work.
However, tensions resurfaced late last year following concerns raised over a cinema release, which led to fresh speculation among fans and reignited the rivalry.
Addressing another issue, she clarified that Toyin Abraham was originally part of her upcoming project but had to withdraw close to production due to personal commitments. The decision, she noted, forced last-minute adjustments but was eventually resolved between them.
Despite her efforts, the actress said she no longer wants to be involved in mediating between both sides, adding that she believes reconciliation will happen when they are ready.
She ended by expressing support for both colleagues while announcing that her film, The Return of Arinzo, is scheduled for nationwide cinema release on April 3.
