GehGeh Denies Wedding Was His Own, Says Content Was Misunderstood
Content creator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has responded to criticism after videos of him at what appeared to be a traditional wedding ceremony went viral, prompting questions over whether the event was genuine.
The relationship and finance influencer shared clips from the ceremony on his X page on Saturday, showing himself and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional outfits. GehGeh wore a flowing agbada accessorised with black bead necklaces. An invitation card shown in one of the videos was dated July 26, listed an 11 a.m. start time, and identified the couple as Mary and Prosper.
Captioning one of the clips, GehGeh wrote: "So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad?" He later posted additional footage from the event, including a clip of the woman performing the traditional first-feeding rites.
Responding to the backlash, GehGeh insisted he had never told his audience not to get married.
"I never for once told y'all not to get married. Did I? If yes, show me a video of me telling you not to marry," he wrote, adding: "Nigerians really don't understand how social media works. If you know how to use it properly, you will never lack."
Separately, GehGeh has also claimed the footage was AI-generated, urging followers to look for inconsistencies such as unnatural dance movements, a claim some social media users disputed by pointing to what they described as mismatched location and event details.
The controversy escalated further after a man identifying himself as GehGeh's former manager alleged in a widely shared clip that the influencer's own marriage advice had cost him his three-year marriage, claiming he left his wife on GehGeh's counsel only to watch GehGeh reportedly marry in secret. He announced he was cutting ties with GehGeh over the matter, though he said he still wished him well.
The episode follows a separate controversy involving GehGeh weeks earlier, when he criticised TikTok personalities Peller and Jarvis over their planned wedding while disclosing that he personally has four baby mothers and two more women currently pregnant with his children.
As of the time of this report, GehGeh has not definitively confirmed or denied whether the ceremony was his own wedding.
