Fave explains why female artists face a harder path to success
Nigerian singer Fave has opened up about the challenges female artists face in the music industry, particularly the pressure to be judged by their appearance alongside their talent.
Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, Fave said women in the music industry are subjected to scrutiny over their bodies, clothing and physical appearance, while male artists do not face the same level of attention.
“It is harder for female artists to blow. Female artists aren’t measured by talent but by what they wear. If your tummy isn’t flat, people sexualise you. It is never really about the music; it is more about people’s sexual desires or their fantasies about you,” she said.
Fave also pointed to the expectations placed on female artists over how they dress and present themselves, arguing that these conversations can overshadow their music.
