Davido Walks Away From Imade’s Custody Case After Emotional Court Experience
Afrobeats singer Davido has announced that he is stepping back from the custody case involving his daughter, Imade, saying the court session became too painful for him to continue.
The singer shared his decision on social media, clearing the air about rumours that he wanted to take full custody of his daughter. According to him, that was never his intention.
Davido explained that all he asked for was joint custody so he could remain fully present in Imade’s life.
“I never asked for full custody. I only asked for joint custody. Nobody won or lost here, except Imade. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
He said he chose to withdraw from the case after an incident in court that deeply upset him. Davido claimed that his late son was mentioned during the proceedings, which he described as a step too far.
“That was the lowest blow,” he said, adding that he could not continue under such circumstances.
Despite ending the legal battle, the singer insisted that his actions were driven by love for his daughter and a sense of responsibility as her father.
“My daughter will grow up knowing that I stood up for her. Let’s move on. One love,” he added.
Davido also criticised what he called unprofessional behaviour from the opposing legal team, saying the court exchange became tense and unnecessary.
Earlier, a Lagos-based lawyer had posted online about dramatic scenes at the Lagos State High Court in Yaba, where the case was being heard. The post sparked public interest and raised questions about what the hearing was about before it was confirmed to be connected to Imade’s custody.
Only days ago, Imade was seen spending time with her father after winning a talent competition, a moment that warmed the hearts of many fans.
As the situation continues to draw attention, many Nigerians have urged both parents to focus on peaceful co-parenting and put the child’s well-being first.
