Afrobeats star Davido used his June 10, 2026 performance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to spotlight the 39 schoolchildren and 7 teachers abducted from Oriire LGA, Oyo State.

During his set at Crypto.com Arena, Davido wore a custom leather jacket bearing the names of the abducted students and teachers. The back of the jacket read “Bring them back.”

Video from the show captured Davido addressing the crowd: “The social issues that's going on in Nigeria right now are the kids that's abducted… These are the names. The kids and the teachers and the ones are red are the ones that lost their lives… Bring them back home.”

The Oyo Abduction occured on May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, all in Oriire Local Government Area. Reports indicate 39 students and seven teachers were abducted, while two teachers were killed.

Oyo State Police PRO said 7 students, 18 pupils and 7 teachers were “still missing” and unaccounted for. The attackers, numbering about 12, came on motorcycles and struck simultaneously. A joint rescue mission by soldiers, police, and vigilantes hit IEDs, leaving several injured. Six suspects have been arrested.

President Bola Tinubu called the attack “barbaric” and said the federal government was working with Oyo State to “rescue all the victims.”

Davido has spoken out repeatedly since the abduction. On Snapchat, he wrote: “I’m weak. God pls take control. We can’t continue like this… my heart goes out to the victims and family.. this is messed up.”

Other artists including Victony, Timaya, and Iyabo Ojo have also condemned the kidnapping and urged government action.

Davido headlined the June 10 concert at Crypto.com Arena alongside Diplo’s Major Lazer and Ava Max. The show was part of FIFA’s synchronised music event across Los Angeles, Toronto, and Mexico City to promote the 2026 World Cup. FIFA and the Recording Academy organised the concert, which was streamed live on TikTok.

This marks Davido’s second World Cup performance after the 2022 closing ceremony in Qatar.

As of today, June 11, 2026, many of the Oyo students and teachers remain in captivity. Davido’s jacket has gone viral, with #BringThemHome trending as Nigerians demand their safe return.
