Afrobeats star David “ Davido” Adeleke has revealed plans to invest in the Dangote Refinery, while defending his decision to share personal moments on social media.

In a post on X, Davido wrote: “Boutta invest in my Godfathers refinery… I’m super proud of myself @DangoteGroup”.

A user, Moses Williams A. (@MosainoWilz), replied: “Na wa for you ooo.. must you tell us everything… don’t you have private life. wtf!!!”

Davido responded: “Its motivation homie Poor man and private life. 5&6”.

Davido has often described billionaire Aliko Dangote as a mentor and “godfather.” In a 2023 Forbes interview, the singer said he takes financial advice from Dangote, who tells him “Save your money!” every time they meet.

“He’s a much more disciplined and very different kind of billionaire… Uncle Aliko buys like two cars every eight years,” Davido said. He also praised Dangote for “making us a lot of industries” and opening “the biggest factory in Africa,” referring to the refinery.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lagos, is the largest single-train refinery in the world. It was built at a cost of about $23 billion and has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

Dangote has called it the “biggest risk” of his life, telling Forbes: “If this didn’t work, I was dead.” The project faced years of delays and cost overruns but began operations last year and has since cut Nigeria’s fuel imports.

Dangote recently announced plans to expand the refinery from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day, which would make it the largest refinery globally. He also said the company intends to list shares of the refinery and petrochemicals complex on the Nigerian Stock Exchange within a year to give Nigerians “the opportunity of owning part” of it.

Davido’s reply suggests he views public updates about his wealth and moves as inspirational rather than oversharing. The singer, who has been open about his finances, family, and career, has previously said his father and Dangote influenced his approach to money and humility.

Neither Davido nor the Dangote Group has released details about the size or structure of any investment.
