Davido boasts no Nigerian singer has more hits, puts $1m on line
Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that no Nigerian singer has more hit songs than him and offered $1 million in cash for a hit-for-hit contest with any artiste who thinks otherwise.
Davido made the statement during a livestream with content creator Davrel, where he spoke about his music catalogue and challenged other Nigerian artistes to a battle.
“I will put $1 million cash on the table. Nobody has more hits than me. Cash. I’ll do it versus anybody. A million dollars cash,” Davido said.
The singer did not name a specific artiste he wanted to face in the proposed contest.
His challenge comes years after a similar exchange involving Burna Boy and Reekado Banks.
In 2020, during the period when the Verzuz series was gaining popularity, Burna Boy challenged other Nigerian artistes to a hit-for-hit battle. Reekado Banks accepted the challenge, but Burna Boy later rejected the former Mavin Records singer, saying he was not a worthy opponent.
The $1 million he offered is to be paid in cash, according to his statement.
As of Wednesday, no Nigerian artiste had publicly accepted Davido’s challenge.
