A Nigerian content creator has explained the emotional moment from his wedding ceremony that recently attracted attention online, saying the tears were staged at his wife’s request.

In an Instagram post, the creator said there was “nothing emotional” about the wedding because he and his wife had already been living together as husband and wife for two years before the ceremony.

According to him, he only participated in the emotional display to satisfy his wife’s family, who had initially opposed the couple living together.

"It’s my wife that asked me to shed those fake tears,” he wrote.

He explained that the wedding was largely a formal ceremony intended to gain the approval of his wife’s family.

The creator said his wife’s family was not supportive of their decision to live together, prompting him to go along with the wedding ceremony despite the couple having already spent two years together.

He suggested that his tears during the ceremony were therefore not a reflection of sadness or overwhelming emotion, but an attempt to please his wife and her family.

The revelation has sparked reactions online, with social media users discussing the circumstances surrounding the couple’s relationship and the role of family approval in marriage.
