Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy is set to perform at the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on Sunday, marking a historic moment in the tournament's history.

The performance will take place at New York New Jersey Stadium during the halftime break of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

Burna Boy will share the stage with an international lineup that includes Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus.

The halftime show, produced by Global Citizen and curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, introduces a Super Bowl-style musical performance to the FIFA World Cup final for the first time.

Reacting to the announcement, Burna Boy described the opportunity as a proud moment for both Nigeria and the African continent.

"It is an honour to represent Nigeria and the entire African continent at an event of this magnitude. Football and music have the power to unite people regardless of language, race or nationality, and I'm proud that Afrobeats will be part of this historic celebration," he said.

The show is also expected to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aimed at expanding access to quality education and football opportunities for children around the world.

Burna Boy said the performance represents more than a personal milestone, describing it as another opportunity to spotlight African music on one of the world's biggest stages.

"It is another opportunity to show the world the richness of African music and culture. Every time we step onto a global stage, we open more doors for the next generation of African artists. This is a win for all of us," he added.
