Burna Boy Named Africa's Best-Selling Artist Of All Time
Burna Boy has been declared the best-selling African artist of all time.
Music data aggregator Chartmasters puts the Grammy-winning singer's sales at 14.46 million equivalent album units, according to a report by Nigerian music platform Debut Hub.
The Port Harcourt-born star has been Africa's dominant pop export since breaking through internationally in 2018 with "YE," building on a career that started with his 2012 debut.
Since 2018, he's released five albums, two of which rank among the most-streamed African projects ever. "African Giant" (2019) has passed 1.2 billion streams on Spotify, while "Love, Damini" (2022) has crossed 1.5 billion.
His commercial reach isn't limited to streaming numbers. Burna Boy also holds the record as Africa's best-selling touring artist, and he's the first African act to sell out London Stadium, Madison Square Garden and Stade de France.
He also holds records for the highest-grossing tour by an African artist, the highest-grossing single concert, and the highest-grossing concerts in both Canada and Oceania.
His profile hit a new peak this year when he became the first African artist to perform at a FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony and Half-Time Show, joining Shakira on stage for "Dai Dai," the tournament's official anthem, at the 2026 World Cup jointly hosted by Canada, the US and Mexico.
