BNXN Reveals Emotional Story Behind ‘Back Outside’
Nigerian singer BNXN has opened up about the deep emotional meaning behind his song Back Outside, revealing that part of the track was inspired by legendary Malian music duo Amadou & Mariam.
The singer explained that he had carried the melody in his head for about three years before finally using it in the song. According to him, the inspiration came together while working with producer Sarz in Los Angeles.
BNXN said Sarz wanted more vocal elements on the track, and that was when he realised the melody he had been holding onto was perfect for the record. He added that the sound stayed with him constantly and was something he could even hear in his sleep.
The artiste further revealed that the chant used in the song came from Amadou & Mariam, a blind couple widely respected for their music. After writing the song, he began to fully understand the meaning behind the Bambara words used in the chant.
According to BNXN, the phrase translates to: “It is God that gives and God that takes, but whatever happens, we keep moving forward.”
He said the message became a source of comfort during one of the most difficult periods of his life, when he was struggling mentally after losing a large amount of money.
BNXN explained that the words reminded him to stay hopeful and keep pushing forward despite setbacks. He described the song as deeply personal and emotionally important to him.
The singer also revealed that he originally planned to release the song in April as a tribute to Amadou, who died on April 4, 2024. However, he delayed the release because he wanted the tribute to be done properly.
He praised Amadou & Mariam for their refreshing sound and lasting influence on music, adding that their connection to Nigerian producer Sarz made the collaboration feel even more meaningful.
