Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has left fans amused after recounting her first experience with New York's cold weather, insisting that no one could dismiss what she went through despite being told it wasn't yet winter.

Speaking during an interview, the singer recalled relocating to New York at what she initially believed was the start of winter. While trying to remember whether she arrived in September or October, the interviewer pointed out that those months are not typically considered the coldest period in the city.

Ayra, however, stood by her experience.

"You're not going to minimise my experience. I know what I went through. I know what I suffered," she said jokingly, drawing laughter during the conversation.

The Rush hitmaker explained that, having grown up in Lagos, Nigeria, she was unprepared for the sharp drop in temperatures.

"Nobody told me how brutal New York winter is," she said. "I come from Lagos."

Although the interviewer noted that September and October are generally milder than New York's peak winter months, Ayra maintained that the weather felt extremely cold from her perspective because of the contrast with Lagos' tropical climate.

The light-hearted exchange has since resonated with fans online, with many sharing similar experiences of adjusting to colder climates after moving from warmer countries.
