Family, friends, and Nollywood colleagues gathered today, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, for the Service of Songs of late actor Alex Ekubo.
 
The memorial ran from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos. Attendees wore white, as requested by the family.

Ekubo, full name Alex Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke, died on May 11, 2026, at 40 after a battle with kidney cancer.

Actors Ini Edo, Funke Akindele, Ik Ogbonna, AY Makun, and others joined fans to honour the actor. AY Makun, who was with Ekubo before his death, recalled his “smile even in death.” 

Nancy Isime, who recently described Ekubo on Yanga 89.9FM as “my friend” with “a great mind,” was among those who had paid tribute ahead of the service.

However, the funeral continues next week in Abia State: 

Wake Keep: June 17, 2026, at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu. 
Funeral Service & Interment: June 18, 2026, at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, with interment at the family compound. A reception follows at Mary Slessor School.

The family expressed gratitude for the support received and asked for continued prayers.
