Actor Tobi Bakre has spoken about his respect for women shaping Nollywood, pointing to Funke Akindele as an example.

During a recent appearance on Mentality With Ebuka, Bakre said Akindele’s commitment to her craft stands out. He stated he would prefer to work with her on a project rather than take a more financially attractive offer elsewhere, citing her discipline and the quality of her output.

Bakre and Akindele previously worked together on Jenifa’s Diary in 2019 and on the 2025 film Behind The Scenes. Bakre played Adewale in the movie, which Akindele co-directed. 

Akindele is currently the highest-grossing director in Nigerian cinema. Bakre first gained public attention as a Big Brother Naija 2018 finalist before moving into acting full time.
