“You cannot do an Igbo burial and not fall sick afterwards” – Chinney Love laments
Filmmaker Chinney Love has expressed deep frustration over the difficulties of organising burial ceremonies in the East.
The movie producer, who recently lost her mother, said she is sick, frustrated, angry, tired and generally fed up with the process. She lamented that one cannot complete an Igbo burial without falling ill afterwards.
Chinney questioned why Igbo culture makes things so hard for children trying to bury their parents. She noted that people often use the vulnerable period of grieving to flex their muscle and show power.
“It’s exhausting and draining,” she stated.
The filmmaker warned that if the stress continues, people may soon stop taking their parents’ bodies to the village for burial. She added that she cannot wait for this phase to be over.
Chinney had announced her mother’s death on Instagram some weeks ago. She is currently navigating life without her mother, whom she described as her everything.
