The controversy over old tweets linked to singer Simi has caught the attention of Lagos authorities.

The state’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency says it has passed the matter to the police for a preliminary check.

The tweets, believed to be from 2012–2014, include references to children at her mother’s daycare. While some people online have criticised them as inappropriate, Simi explained that the posts reflected her experiences helping at the daycare when she was younger. She insists the tweets were never meant in a harmful way.

The agency says it is taking the situation seriously because of potential child protection concerns.

They are encouraging anyone who may have relevant information to come forward, as further action will depend on available complaints.

In short, authorities are now watching the case closely, and the investigation will determine if any legal steps are needed, while reminding the public that context and facts are important before passing judgment.
