Kenya Ranked Among East Africa’s Most Expensive Countries for Fuel
Kenya has become one of the countries with the highest fuel prices in East Africa after new fuel price comparisons across the region.
Recent figures showed that petrol and diesel prices in Kenya are now higher than in many neighbouring countries. Rwanda recorded the highest petrol price in the region, while Kenya came closely behind.
The report also showed that Kenya currently has the most expensive diesel price in East Africa. This is expected to affect transportation costs, businesses and the prices of goods and services.
Other countries recorded different fuel trends. Tanzania saw higher kerosene prices, while Uganda experienced a drop in fuel costs during the latest review period.
Despite slight increases, Ethiopia remained the cheapest country for fuel in the region because of government price controls and subsidies.
Experts linked the price differences to taxes, import costs, currency challenges and government policies in each country. Nations that depend heavily on imported fuel were said to be more affected by rising global oil prices.
