A Nigerian social media user, Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, has been sentenced to two years in prison after he admitted to circulating false information about the daughter of music stars Adekunle Gold and Simi.

Adeyeye, who is active on X (formerly Twitter), had posted a message falsely claiming that the couple’s daughter, Deja, had died. The post quickly spread across the platform and sparked widespread concern and reactions from users before it was confirmed to be untrue.

Following investigations into the matter, authorities charged him with offences linked to cyberbullying and defamation. He later pleaded guilty when the case was brought before the court.

After his plea, the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment for spreading misleading and harmful content online.

The ruling has since generated conversations on social media about the growing issue of fake news, online harassment, and the legal consequences of posting false information, especially when it involves public figures and their families.

Many users have described the judgement as a strong warning against the spread of malicious content intended to mislead the public or gain attention online.
