The government of Togo has announced visa-free entry for all African citizens, making it one of the few countries on the continent to fully remove visa restrictions for Africans.

The new policy began on May 18, 2026, and allows travellers from African countries to enter Togo without applying for a visa before arrival. Visitors with valid passports can stay in the country for up to 30 days.

Officials said the decision is part of efforts to strengthen unity among African nations, improve trade and encourage easier movement across borders. The policy is also expected to support tourism, business activities and cultural exchange within the continent.

Although visas are no longer required, travellers must still meet immigration and security conditions before entering the country. Authorities also directed visitors to complete an online travel declaration before arrival to receive border clearance.

Togo now joins countries including Ghana, Rwanda, Benin, The Gambia and Seychelles in adopting visa-free travel policies for Africans.

Meanwhile, Ghana is also preparing to introduce a similar arrangement later this month as part of activities marking Africa Day celebrations.
