Sien Essien has announced that he is no longer working with Nigerian artist Danpapa GTA, following a disagreement over the direction of the rapper’s music.

Essien, a Nigerian video director, host, and media creative, made the announcement on Monday, August 16, 2026, saying the decision was difficult because of his close relationship with Danpapa and his belief in the artist’s talent.

“I love Danpapa, I love Danpapa a lot, and I’ve pushed his music, I’ve pushed him with everything I have. I have been very passionate about him as a talent, and I still am, so it breaks my heart immensely to part ways with him,” Essien wrote.

He added that he had received significant organic support for the journey but would not go into the details of the split, saying he had tried to resolve the matter privately.

Danpapa responded on X, disputing the circumstances surrounding the split. He said he had not told Essien that he no longer wanted to work with him, but had instead said he wanted to release a tape.

According to Danpapa, Essien rejected the tape because the songs did not fit his brand and told him he could no longer work with him.

“Bro, you don’t have to do this for real. Making this post will only make people hate me for no reason. I never for once tell you say I no wan work with you. I talk, say I wan drop tape; you say no, cause the songs are not going with your brand, that you can't work with me anymore,” he wrote.

Danpapa GTA, whose real name is Akinlemibola Daniel Omotoyosi, is a Lagos-based singer, songwriter, and producer. ‘Ikeja (No Go Thief)’ remains his most prominent release, with the song also receiving performances on Glitch Africa and AKtivated Sessions.
