RMD Celebrates Joke Silva at 65
Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has celebrated actress Joke Silva on her 65th birthday, describing her as his “aburo” and recalling their friendship of more than 40 years.
RMD shared the tribute on Instagram on Tuesday, September 29, saying he had celebrated Silva since their paths first crossed more than four decades ago.
“Ajokijoks, as only me, your Egbon, can call you, I celebrate you today as I have done since our paths crossed over 40 years ago,” he wrote.
“What a joy it is to call you friend, baby sister and colleague."
RMD also acknowledged Silva’s loss following the death of her husband, veteran actor Olu Jacobs, who died on September 16 at the age of 84.
“Even as you mourn the love of your life, Uncle Jay, we are reminded of your life of grace, your dedication and your love of not just family, but your craft and your country. Your contribution to our industry, your commitment to excellence and the lives you have touched over the years are immeasurable,” RMD wrote.
The actor also recalled the personal relationship they have maintained throughout their careers, referring to Silva as his friend, younger sister and colleague.
Silva, who began her professional career in 1981, has worked across theatre, television and film. She trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and later became one of Nigeria’s prominent stage and screen actresses.
She and Olu Jacobs also co-founded the Lufodo Group, which includes Lufodo Productions and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
Silva has received several honours for her work, including the Africa Movie Academy Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 and the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2014.
Silva’s birthday comes a day before the Night of Tributes for Olu Jacobs at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos. His funeral service is scheduled for October 2.
