Popular Nigerian content creator Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, has stirred debate online after revealing that he turned down an offer from DStv to stream his forthcoming wedding, opting instead for digital platforms including TikTok, YouTube and Twitch.

According to a post , Peller said:

"DStv has approached me about streaming my wedding, but I'm sorry DStv. My wedding will be streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok."

The announcement quickly generated mixed reactions across social media. While many applauded the influencer's preference for digital platforms with global reach and younger audiences, others criticised what they perceived as the tone of his response.

Among the critics was X user Zara Cyril, who wrote:

"Acting like you're above everyone else isn't a sign of greatness; it's a sign of poor etiquette and arrogance. The people who deserve respect are usually the ones who show it first. You are such a child."

The post has since fueled conversations about the growing influence of online streaming platforms over traditional television, with some users arguing that creators are increasingly prioritising direct engagement with their digital audiences.

Others, however, defended Peller's decision, noting that Twitch, YouTube and TikTok offer broader accessibility, real-time interaction and global reach, making them attractive options for livestreaming major personal events.

Peller has not publicly responded to the criticism beyond his initial announcement, and there has been no official statement from DStv regarding the reported approach.
