'Our daughter did not die of cancer' - Tope Osoba family says
The family of late Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has dismissed claims that she died from cancer, saying reports linking her death to the illness are false.
In a statement released on Thursday, the family said although Osoba was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, she underwent treatment, recovered, and returned to work. They stressed that cancer was not the cause of her death and urged the public to stop spreading what they described as misleading information.
"Our daughter did not die of cancer. She fought it, survived it and moved on with her life," the family said, adding that reducing her life and death to the disease diminishes the strength she showed after her recovery.
The clarification comes a day after news of the actress' death triggered an outpouring of tributes across the entertainment industry, with several reports stating that she had died following a battle with breast cancer.
Osoba had publicly appealed for financial support for cancer treatment in 2024 before announcing in 2025 that she was cancer-free and ready to return to acting. The family has not disclosed the actual cause of her death.
