Niniola Apata is stepping back into public view, two months after announcing the death of her husband, Michael Ndika.

The Afro-house star appeared in a video shared online earlier in July and again on Saturday, marking her first visible public moments since her loss. Fans reacted with concern over her appearance, with many attributing the change to the emotional weight of grief.

In an Instagram Story on Saturday, Niniola shared a throwback photo of herself with a message recalling her husband's words about her.

"Michael… Loved me thick. You always loved me to be thick," she wrote.

In a separate post, she reflected on the loss directly.

"You should be here… Here with me… Death visited me and tore me apart," she wrote, adding, "Where do I start from? How do I navigate this new and unbelievable reality?"

Niniola first announced Ndika's death in May, through a series of Instagram Story posts. "God took him," she wrote at the time, later adding, "My husband died," and "13 years. 13 fing years." The circumstances of his death were not disclosed.

Ndika served as CEO of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on Afro-house and African music. Niniola had largely kept her marriage private throughout their relationship.

The singer rose to prominence through Project Fame West Africa in 2013 and gained wider recognition with her 2017 hit single "Maradona."
