Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he wants no part in Nigerian politics after his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, secured a second term as governor of Osun State.

Davido made the statement on Monday, August 17, in a post on X while responding to comments about his role in the election. His reaction followed a post by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Leader Dayo Israel, who identified Davido, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and President Bola Tinubu as three figures who shaped the outcome of the August 15 election.

Israel credited Davido with helping Adeleke’s campaign connect with young voters, saying the singer used his influence, networks, music, and digital reach to mobilise young people. He also said Davido brought artistes, influencers, and other young voices into the campaign.

Davido rejected that characterisation, saying he supported his family independently.

“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww! I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil AND I DONT WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US!,” he said.

Davido had openly supported his uncle during the Osun governorship campaign and used his social media platforms to speak about the election.

Gov. Ademola Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, won the August 15 election with 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The 66,252-vote margin secured Adeleke another four-year term as governor.
