May Yul-Edochie Sues Ex-Lawyer, Others for ₦1.5bn Over Alleged Info Leak
May Yul-Edochie has taken her former lawyer to court over years of alleged online harassment.
The Nollywood actor's estranged wife filed the suit at a Lagos High Court, naming Emeka Ugwuonye, Yinka Omolola Theisen and several unidentified social media account operators as defendants.
Her lawyers, Greylaw Partners, are seeking perpetual injunctions to stop the alleged harassment and force the removal of disputed content from Facebook, Instagram and X.
One of the most striking claims in the suit involves Ugwuonye, who once represented her legally. May alleges he breached solicitor-client confidentiality by going public with information he got through that relationship.
The backstory goes back to 2022, when Yul Edochie announced he'd taken a second wife, actress Judy Austin, and had a child with her. May had been married to Yul for over two decades, and they share four children.
The fallout played out publicly, and May became one of the most talked-about figures in Nigerian entertainment that year, drawing both sympathy and sustained online hostility.
In a 126-paragraph affidavit, May says that hostility never let up. She alleges a coordinated campaign involving manipulated photos, AI-generated images, fabricated stories, insulting caricatures and direct death wishes, all aimed at humiliating her and hurting her business standing.
She also claims her personal contact details were leaked online, exposing her and her family to harassment beyond social media.
May says she tried to resolve things without court first. Cease-and-desist notices went out in September 2025 to two of the named defendants, demanding takedowns, retractions and apologies. Instead, she alleges, the attacks got worse, with new accounts popping up to replace ones that got flagged.
May is seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Theisen, plus court orders directing social media platforms to identify the operators behind the anonymous accounts.
Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has ordered that court processes be served across all known contact channels for the defendants. The matter has been adjourned for a service report.
