In a statement released on Monday, February 23, the Ministry of Transport explained that the facility was originally known as Accra International Airport before it was later renamed. Authorities say the decision to return to the previous and globally recognized name reflects a move toward consistency and historical accuracy.

Officials also assured travelers and stakeholders that the change will not disrupt airport services, security procedures, or international flight operations. The Ministry emphasized that the airport’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) code, “ACC,” has always remained the same despite previous name adjustments.

As part of the transition, government agencies will gradually update relevant documents, legal records, airport signage, online platforms, aviation materials, and other official communications to reflect the restored name.

The government is urging cooperation from aviation partners, stakeholders, and the public to ensure the process is carried out smoothly. The Ministry further expressed gratitude for the continued support of all parties involved.
