Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has been named a Guinness World Records ICON for 2027.

The recognition was announced by Guinness World Records, which cited Baci's record-breaking achievements, including her 2023 cooking marathon in Lagos and her 2025 record for the largest serving of jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilograms.

According to Guinness World Records, Baci's accomplishments inspired a wave of endurance record attempts across Africa, with more than 1,500 applications reportedly submitted from Nigeria alone.

Baci, who began assisting at her mother's restaurant as a child, said she hopes to continue pursuing record attempts that promote impact and African culture.

In her words, she says: "It feels really good, you know. It feels good to know that things like this can happen for people like me, you know. And people see me taking pictures, you know, attending fun events. But I promise you, there was one time that I had gotten to a level where I thought that my dreams could never come true, you know. I've had this plan for more than a month, and I have struggled with accepting what it is."

The chef gained international attention in 2023 following her record-setting cooking marathon, which drew widespread support from Nigerians and attracted global recognition.
