Award-winning highlife singer Flavour has shared the story of his struggle with masturbation, revealing that the addiction lasted for two years before he eventually overcame it.

During a TikTok Live session with fans and friends, the singer, born Chinedu Okoli, said the habit began after he lost contact with the woman he lost his virginity to at the age of 24. According to him, repeated attempts to reconnect with her were unsuccessful, leaving him searching for ways to cope.

Flavour said he was introduced to sexually explicit Mapouka dance videos by a friend, a habit he admitted soon developed into an addiction.

Ashamed by the experience, the singer said he sought help from his mother's pastor, who prescribed prayers, Bible readings and a 21-day fast. However, he relapsed after only a few days.

"I was so ashamed and needed to talk to someone. It is not something you can go to your dad or mum to talk about," he recalled.

The singer said he later confided in an elderly Cameroonian bassist in his band, whose advice eventually helped him break the cycle.

Flavour rose to prominence with his 2010 breakthrough hit Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix) and has since become one of Africa's most celebrated highlife musicians, with albums including Blessed, Ijele – The Traveler and Flavour of Africa.
